Welcome To Iraq, The Iraq Pavilion at Venice Biennale 2013

WELCOME TO IRAQ is a group exhibition representing the national Iraq Pavilion. It is curated by Jonathan Watkins, and comprises works by contemporary Iraqi artists resident in Iraq. @ Venice Biennale 2013


Ruya Foundation for Contemporary Culture in Iraq (RUYA) is an Iraqi registered non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 2012 by Iraq art and culture enthusiasts with the aim of aiding and enriching culture in Iraq, and building cultural bridges with the world.

To curate the Pavilion of Iraq at the 55th International Art Exhibition -- la Biennale di Venezia in 2013 we have spent weeks travelling through Iraq to meet various communities, artistic and otherwise, in order to present our project and learn. The Pavilion will feature a selection of artists now living and working in Iraq, so research trips have been integral to the curatorial process.
